AKCILS Reinstates Annual Islamic Jurisprudence Week, Acting Provost Affirms
The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, AKCILS, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu'az, has pledged to facilitate efforts towards upgrading the College's Ordinary Diploma in Sharia, Quran and Hadith to National Diploma, ND, assuring students and the College community that the process is already in the pipeline.
Dr. Tamasi made the pledge when he received a delegation from the Departments of Sharia and Common Law, who paid him a congratulatory visit following his appointment as Ag. Provost of the College.
Speaking during the occasion, the Ag. Provost explained that the upgrade process affects legal colleges across the country and is currently being handled through the Conference of Provosts of Colleges of Legal and Islamic Studies, COPCLIS, which, he said, is working tirelessly to actualise the process.
He stated that part of the proposed upgrade would enable holders of the Ordinary Diploma in law and Sharia to undergo a one-year programme leading to the award of National Diploma qualification.
Dr. Tamasi further assured the delegation that the ongoing process of transforming AKCILS into a full-fledged College of Education would not affect the foundation upon which the institution was established. He explained that the upgrade would instead create opportunities for the College to benefit from various national interventions and develop infrastructure as well as to cater for the sponsorship of Academic staff for advanced studies.

He also clarified that the change in nomenclature would not affect the existing courses and academic offerings of the College, urging the entire College community to support the upgrade policy and work collectively towards its successful completion.
The Acting Provost expressed his appreciation for the visit and congratulatory gesture. He particularly commended Dr. Hassan Noor, whom he described as the oldest serving staff member of the College, having joined the institution in 1982 and former Director Consultancy Services Unit, Malam Nasiru Koki for the gesture respectively.
Dr. Tamasi described the Department of Sharia as the backbone of the College, owing to its historical contributions to the establishment and development of the institution.
He disclosed that he had reinstated the Sharia Week, a historic annual event that was formerly celebrated by the College, and directed the department to submit a comprehensive proposal for its successful organisation.
The Acting Provost also pledged to initiate efforts towards securing affiliation with Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, UDUS, for the College's Diploma programmes in Sharia and, where possible, explore affiliation opportunities for degree programmes in Sharia.
On the College's degree programmes affiliated with the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, FUDMA, Dr. Tamasi assured the delegation that the programmes are in progress and the students would graduate successfully.
Earlier, in their separate remarks, the Heads of the Departments of Sharia Malam Jamilu Uba Umar and his counterpart of Common and Islamic Law Dr. Usman Ahmad congratulated Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu'az on his appointment and expressed their happiness over his emergence as Acting Provost.
They described his appointment as well deserved and timely, attributing it to his diligence, hard work, honesty and commitment to truth and the rule of law.
The Heads of Department commended Dr. Tamasi for his dogged stand on the principles of uprightness and urged him to remain humble, embrace all members of the College community and carry everyone along in his administration.
They also appealed to the College Management to intensify effort towards completing the process of upgrading the Ordinary Diploma to National Diploma, particularly for students who possess the Ordinary Diploma and wish to proceed through the proposed one-year programme.
In his remarks, former Director of Consultancy Services, Malam Nasiru Koki, congratulated the Acting Provost on his appointment and prayed for a successful and impactful tenure in office.
