Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) has secured full accreditation for its Department of Medical Laboratory Science from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), marking another milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence.

Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) has secured full accreditation for its Department of Medical Laboratory Science from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), marking another milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence.

The accreditation, granted for the training of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) students, is valid for five years and carries an approved intake of 50 students per session.

The university described the achievement as another major milestone for the ASPIRE Agenda, noting that it reflects its commitment to academic excellence, institutional development and adherence to global standards.

The Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Professor Dimie Ogoina, expressed appreciation to the Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, for his continued commitment to the development of the university and for providing the resources and enabling environment that have contributed to the institution’s achievements.

Professor Ogoina also commended the Governing Council, Faculty of Health Sciences, the Dean and the entire University Management for their strategic support towards the accreditation exercise.

Special recognition was given to the Head of the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Dr. Marcella Tari Joshua, as well as the academic and non-academic staff of the department for their dedication, professionalism and extensive preparation for the accreditation exercise.

The university also commended students of the department for their commitment and confidence, describing their contribution as an important part of the institution’s mission.

The full accreditation of the Medical Laboratory Science programme is expected to further strengthen BMU’s academic profile and support its efforts to provide professional training in medical and health sciences.
