FUNAAB Commissions 12 Electric Tricycles to Boost Green Mobility and Job Creation

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has taken another significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation, campus mobility and economic empowerment with the commissioning of 12 new eco-friendly, zero-emission electric tricycles.

The tricycles, provided through a partnership between FUNAAB and House of Destiny Global Services Limited, were commissioned on September 28, 2026, by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Olusegun Idowu; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Olawale Dairo; other top University officials; and the Abeokuta Area Manager of House of Destiny Global Services Limited, Mr. Yomi Olajumoke.

The tricycles are intended to provide convenient and sustainable transportation for students and staff, while contributing to the University's environmental sustainability agenda and creating opportunities for employment and income generation within the University Community.

Speaking during the commissioning, the Vice-Chancellor commended House of Destiny Global Services Limited for the partnership, describing the initiative as a welcome development that would support cleaner campus mobility while easing transportation challenges within and around the University.

Prof. Kehinde noted that the deployment of electric tricycles is consistent with the growing global emphasis on environmentally responsible transportation, stressing that the initiative would contribute to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable campus environment.

He charged the operators to place a high premium on safety, responsible driving and consideration for the University environment, particularly the safety and convenience of students and other members of the University Community.

Prof. Kehinde expressed optimism that the initiative would serve as a foundation for a more robust partnership between FUNAAB and House of Destiny Global Services Limited, with the possibility of expanding the collaboration to include the introduction of other electric vehicles for use within the University Community.

Beyond transportation, the scheme is expected to provide the University with an additional avenue for sustainable internally generated revenue, while creating direct employment opportunities for operators and other beneficiaries within and around the University.

The electric tricycles are powered entirely by electricity and produce no exhaust emissions, thereby eliminating smoke and reducing noise pollution associated with conventional fuel-powered transportation. Their deployment is therefore expected to support FUNAAB's commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

The commissioning ceremony culminated in a test ride of the electric tricycles by the Vice-Chancellor and other officials.
