McPherson University College Of Computing Trains Staff On Generative AI For Academic Work

Members of staff of McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, have received practical training on the application of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching, content development and student assessment at a one-day seminar organised by the College of Computing on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at the University Lecture Theatre.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Adegbaye Igbasan, highlighted the opportunities Generative AI offers academics, particularly in preparing lecture notes and developing relevant academic content. He reaffirmed Management's commitment to supporting similar capacity-building initiatives and encouraged lecturers from other departments to participate in subsequent sessions. He also announced that the training would be repeated to enable more members of staff to acquire the knowledge and practical skills needed to maximise the benefits of AI in their academic activities.

In a presentation titled Generative AI for Teaching and Content Development, Dr. Oladapo Adeduro, Acting Director of ICT and Acting Head of the Department of Cyber Security, demonstrated how Generative AI could be used to develop course outlines, measurable learning objectives, comprehensive lecture notes, presentation slides and examination questions aligned with the National Universities Commission's Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).

In another presentation titled Application of AI for Smarter Student Assessment, the Dean of the College of Computing, Prof. Isaac Odun-Ayo, examined how artificial intelligence could support the development of assessment questions, grading rubrics, analysis of learning outcomes and the provision of timely feedback to students.

The seminar also emphasised the importance of responsible AI adoption, highlighting the need for adequate training, ethical guidelines and human oversight to safeguard academic integrity and ensure that artificial intelligence remains a supportive tool rather than a replacement for lecturers' professional judgement.
