Gombe State University Welcomes Commencement of Artificial Insemination and Breed Multiplication Centre

Gombe State University has recorded another significant milestone with the official handover of the site for the construction of a state-of-the-art Artificial Insemination (AI) and Breed Multiplication Centre at its Faculty of Agriculture, Malam Sidi Campus.

The landmark project, facilitated through the Gombe State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project with support from the World Bank, reflects the commitment of the Executive Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, to agricultural transformation, livestock development and higher education.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, at the handover ceremony, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Rasheed Abdulghaniy, expressed the University's appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary leadership and sustained investment in projects that strengthen research, innovation and human capital development. He also commended the World Bank and the Gombe L-PRES Project for choosing Gombe State University as the host institution for the specialised facility.

Professor Abdulghaniyyu assured that the University would provide the necessary institutional support to ensure the long-term sustainability of the centre while urging the contractor to deliver a high-quality project in accordance with approved specifications and within the six-month completion period.

The Project Coordinator of Gombe L-PRES, Professor Usman Bello Abubakar, noted that the AI Centre would serve as a hub for modern livestock breeding, research, capacity building and technology transfer, with the potential to enhance livestock productivity, improve farmers' livelihoods and contribute to lasting peace through increased agricultural prosperity.

Upon completion, the facility will significantly strengthen teaching, research and community engagement at Gombe State University while positioning both the University and Gombe State as leading centres for livestock genetics, dairy development and agricultural innovation in Nigeria.
