IBBU Lapai Denies Involvement in Student’s Alleged Suicide Over Rent Dispute

The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, has officially distanced itself from the circumstances surrounding the reported suicide of a 300-level Computer Science student, Mr. Kelvin Danlami. 

In a press statement released today, January 20, 2026, the University addressed social media reports suggesting the student took his life following a dispute over house rent in Lapai town.

While the university community mourns the loss, Management has urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or speculating on the "mysterious death" until security agencies conclude their investigations.

"The University Management cautions against speculation and the spread of unverified information that may further traumatize the family, friends, and the University community," the statement read.

IBBU Management took the opportunity to advise the student body to remain focused on their academic pursuits and exercise extreme caution regarding private financial transactions. Students were urged to avoid "questionable activities" that could lead to psychological, legal, or financial distress.
