Lagos Security Fund Urges NSCDC to Intensify Protection of Schools, Critical Infrastructure

Lagos State Security Trust Fund has urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to intensify the protection of schools and critical infrastructure across the state.

According to the statement, the Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan, made the call on Wednesday during his visit to the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC.

Ogunsan also presented 30 ballistic helmets, 30 bulletproof vests and 100 raincoats to the command to strengthen the operational capacity of its personnel.

Speaking during the visit, Ogunsan described the NSCDC as a strategic security partner, praising its contribution to security in Lagos.

He urged the Corps to pay greater attention to the protection of pupils and students, noting that the safety of children was critical to the future of the country.

He said, “I want to plead with you because of the exploits that you do in one area, that is school protection. Our children need to be safe. If we don’t do anything for the young ones, it’s like we are preparing for a very horrible future for ourselves.

“It is high time that we begin to pay attention to our young ones. I want them to go to school and have peace of mind and come back to their parents after school. That’s when they feel the impact of security.”

He also urged the NSCDC to intensify the protection of critical infrastructure in Lagos.

“Continue to keep an eye on critical infrastructures in our State,” he said.

Ogunsan said the donation was both an appreciation of the Corps’ efforts and a demonstration of the LSSTF’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the state.

He assured the command that the fund would provide more operational equipment as resources became available.

Receiving the items, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Sunday Keshinro, thanked Ogunsan and the LSSTF for their continued logistical support.

Keshinro described the donation as “a very good gesture”, saying the equipment would motivate personnel and improve their effectiveness in protecting lives and property as well as critical assets across the state.

The commandant also highlighted the infrastructural challenges facing the command.

He disclosed that the Lagos State Government allocated 2,021 square metres of land in Alausa on August 9, 2024, for the construction of a new six-storey headquarters for the NSCDC, but said funding constraints had delayed the commencement of the project.

He also acknowledged the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for providing another permanent facility for the command at Iponri, which he said had commenced refurbishment.

Keshinro said the command had 50 divisional offices and 10 area commands across Lagos, adding that the Corps remained committed to maintaining a strong security presence across the state.
