Lagos State University (LASU) has commenced applications for admission into its Pre-Degree Studies (PDS) Programme for the 2026/2027 academic session.
According to the University, the one-year programme will begin in October 2026 and end in September 2027. It is designed to prepare candidates with deficiencies in their O'Level results to successfully retake the required examinations while also equipping them for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) ahead of admission into 100-level degree programmes at the University.
The programme will be conducted at the LASU Epe Campus, with all admitted students required to reside in the University's hostels throughout the duration of their studies.
The University explained that the Pre-Degree programme offers candidates an alternative pathway into degree programmes, noting that students who successfully complete the programme and meet the required admission conditions will be considered under the University's Pre-Degree admission quota.
To be eligible, applicants must possess credit passes in at least three subjects, including any of Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Government, Economics, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies (CRS), Islamic Religious Studies (IRS) and Accounting in WAEC, NECO or GCE examinations obtained in not more than two sittings.

Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written qualifying examination covering the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Biology
- Government
- Economics
- Literature in English
- Christian Religious Studies (CRS)
- Islamic Religious Studies (IRS)
- Accounting
The University stated that candidates seeking admission into the 100-level after completing the programme must sit for the UTME, obtain the minimum JAMB cut-off mark for university admission and participate in the University's screening exercise.
Candidates with outstanding O'Level deficiencies are also required to register for WAEC and/or NECO and successfully obtain the required credits in all relevant subjects before they can be considered for admission.
Successful candidates may gain admission into degree programmes in Engineering, Science, Management Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Law, Agriculture, Transport, Mass Communication, Nursing, Dentistry and the College of Medicine.
Highlighting the programme's recent achievements, LASU disclosed that despite the generally low performance recorded in the 2026 UTME nationwide, its current Pre-Degree students posted impressive results. According to the University, about 90 per cent of the candidates scored 200 and above, while several candidates recorded scores above 300, attributing the success to intensive teaching and computer-based test (CBT) practice.
Interested applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of N15,000 through the University's official payment platform before completing their online registration.
Applications can be submitted through the Pre-Degree application portal: http://studentservices.lasu.edu.ng/pds_application/newstudents/
The University advised prospective applicants to first visit www.lasu.edu.ng to make the required payment before proceeding with the online registration.
LASU said the application portal will remain open for six weeks from the date of the advertisement, while the date for the qualifying examination and interview will be announced later.
The University also warned applicants against making payments to individuals or unofficial accounts, stressing that anyone who does so would be at their own risk.
