LASU VC Assures Students of Open-Door Policy, Improved Welfare as 37th Students’ Union Pays Courtesy Visit

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, has assured students of an open-door administration and improved welfare as the 37th Lagos State University Students’ Union Executive paid a courtesy visit to the University’s 10th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The visit formed part of the Students’ Union’s engagements with the new administration and took place on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Conference Room.

The student leaders, led by the Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, were received by the Vice-Chancellor during the meeting.

Describing students as key stakeholders in the University, Professor Badejo commended the 37th Students’ Union Executive for its maturity and responsible conduct.

She assured the student leaders of an open-door policy, stressing that the Students’ Union remained an integral part of the University and that students’ voices would count under her administration.

Presenting the priorities of the 37th Students’ Union Administration, the LASUSU President, Comrade Rufai Obipehin, congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and identified student welfare, effective communication, dialogue and collaboration as major areas of focus.

He called for clear and timely communication from Management and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to addressing student-related issues through dialogue and round-table engagement.

The Speaker of the Students’ Union Parliament, Rt. Hon. Imam Temidayo, also assured the Vice-Chancellor that confrontation would not be the approach of the 37th Administration.

He expressed the Union’s readiness to work with Management in the interest of students and the University.

Also speaking, the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs Division, Dr Fatai-Abatan, described the Students’ Union as a “partner in progress”, commending its responsible conduct and pledging the necessary support for a productive relationship between the Union and University Management.

Responding to the issues raised by the student leaders, Professor Badejo identified student welfare as a key pillar of her administration’s vision.

She noted that the University would prioritise an environment where students could learn, develop and enjoy a fulfilling university experience.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted mental health, adequate facilities, student retention and mentorship as areas requiring attention. She noted that mentorship opportunities would include connecting students with established individuals who could provide guidance and support for their academic and personal development.

The engagement was attended by members of University Management and also featured the Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mr Olugbenga Sadiku, who accompanied the Students’ Union delegation.

The meeting marked the first major engagement between the new administration and the Students’ Union, setting the tone for a relationship focused on communication, dialogue, collaboration and student success.
