LICGI and CYNA Honour LASU Vice-Chancellor for Leadership and Transformational Impact

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has been honoured with two prestigious awards by the Lagos Island Childhood Gist Initiative (LICGI) and the Council of Nigeria Youth Advocate (CYNA) in recognition of her outstanding leadership, educational reforms, and commitment to youth and societal development.

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, has been honoured with two prestigious awards by the Lagos Island Childhood Gist Initiative (LICGI) and the Council of Nigeria Youth Advocate (CYNA) in recognition of her outstanding leadership, educational reforms, and commitment to youth and societal development.

The awards were presented on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo.

LICGI conferred on Professor Olatunji-Bello an Award of Recognition and Appreciation for her contributions to education, exemplary leadership, and dedication to the growth and development of children and young people. Presenting the award, the President of LICGI, Hon. Mudirakat Ajibona, described the Vice-Chancellor as a symbol of excellence, integrity, and measurable impact. She noted that the honour coincided with the association’s 10th anniversary and celebrated Prof. Olatunji-Bello as a proud Lagos Island daughter whose academic and leadership journey continues to inspire future generations.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor also received the Outstanding Leadership Award 2026 from CYNA, recognising her as a Peak Performer and Icon of Educational Transformation. CYNA President, Ambassador Haruna Gambar, praised her transformational leadership, citing notable improvements in academic quality, research output, and industry–university collaboration, which have elevated LASU’s profile among Nigeria’s leading universities.

In her response, Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed appreciation to both organisations, stressing that sustained excellence is driven by shared vision, teamwork, and institutional support. She acknowledged the contributions of past and present members of the University Management, staff, and stakeholders across Lagos State, describing the honours as a reflection of collective commitment to progress and innovation.

Senior university officials present at the ceremony included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin; the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu; the representative of the University Bursar, Mr Jerry Jinadu; and the University Librarian, Dr Omawumi Makinde, alongside other senior officers of the institution.
