Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd.), has emphasized the need for a radical shift in Nigeria's security strategy, focusing on youth engagement and empowerment to counter violent extremism.

He made this call during the 18th Distinguished Public Lecture at the Federal University Lokoja, themed "Youth, Governance, and Countering Violent Extremism: Rethinking Nigeria's Security Strategy".

He highlighted the importance of critical education and peace literacy in schools, as well as youth-led digital platforms in countering hate speech and fostering positive narratives.
