Lt. Gen. Buratai Calls for Youth-Centric Approach to Combat Insecurity at FULOKOJA

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd.), has emphasized the need for a radical shift in Nigeria's security strategy, focusing on youth engagement and empowerment to counter violent extremism.

He made this call during the 18th Distinguished Public Lecture at the Federal University Lokoja, themed "Youth, Governance, and Countering Violent Extremism: Rethinking Nigeria's Security Strategy".

He highlighted the importance of critical education and peace literacy in schools, as well as youth-led digital platforms in countering hate speech and fostering positive narratives.

Federal University Lokoja's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, echoed Buratai's sentiments, stating that the theme of the lecture was timely given Nigeria's security challenges. He expressed confidence that Buratai's insights would inspire meaningful conversations and inform policy.

The lecture underscores the need for a transformative approach to governance and youth engagement in Nigeria. By placing youth at the forefront of decision-making processes, the country can tap into their potential and energy to build a more secure and prosperous future.
