NDLEA Kano Strategic Command to Partner with Kano State Polytechnic for Skills Training

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Kano Strategic Command, is set to partner with the Continuing Professional Development Centre, CPDC, Kano State Polytechnic, to provide skills training in various trades for rehabilitated persons and individuals currently in the custody of the Agency.

The initiative is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical and employable skills that will enable them to become self-reliant, earn a legitimate livelihood, and successfully reintegrate into society, while also reducing the risk of relapse into drug abuse and trafficking.

Speaking during an interactive session between the Agency and the management of the CPDC at the Central Administration of Kano State Polytechnic, the Director, CPDC, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim K/Nasarawa, expressed gratitude, on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of Kano State Polytechnic, for the prompt response of the NDLEA to the institution’s initiative.

He commended the Commander, NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, for his proactive approach and commitment towards addressing drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Kano State.

The Director explained that the meeting was a follow-up to an earlier visit to the Kano Strategic Command, during which both parties discussed possible areas of collaboration that would complement the efforts of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, in the fight against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.

Comrade Abdullahi expressed hope that the Director-General of the Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), and the Executive Governor of Kano State would be present to witness either the commencement or graduation ceremony of the first batch of beneficiaries of the skills acquisition programme.

Responding, the Commander, NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, was represented by the Assistant State Commander in charge of Drug Prevention and Sensitisation, ACN Mu'awiya Alkali. He described the proposed collaboration as a significant step towards supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals recovering from drug abuse and those who had previously engaged in illicit drug trafficking.

He noted that the acquisition of practical skills would provide rehabilitated persons with legitimate means of livelihood and enable them to become productive members of society, thereby reducing the possibility of relapse.

ACN Mu'awiya further highlighted various initiatives and strategies being introduced by the Kano Strategic Command under the leadership of CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, aimed at tackling drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the State. He emphasised that the Command remained committed to protecting the people of Kano State from the consequences of drug abuse, which he described as a major contributing factor to various social vices and criminal activities.

He also commended the management of Kano State Polytechnic, under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, for strengthening skills development centres that provide practical and entrepreneurship training.

At the end of the meeting, the Director, CPDC, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim K/Nasarawa, led the NDLEA team on an inspection tour of some Skills Development Centres within Kano State Polytechnic to assess facilities available for the proposed collaboration.

The NDLEA delegation included ACN Mu'awiya Alkali, the State Public Relations Officer, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, and other top officials of the Agency.

The proposed partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the rehabilitation, empowerment and successful reintegration of beneficiaries, while strengthening collective efforts against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Kano State and the nation at large.
