NDU Graduate Blessing Oborududu to Represent Nigeria in Women's Freestyle Wrestling at Paris 2024 Olympics

Blessing Oborududu, a graduate of Niger Delta University (NDU), is set to represent Nigeria in women's freestyle wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Currently, she serves as the United World Wrestling (UWW) Athlete Representative for Africa and previously led the Nigerian team as National Team Captain at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

NDU Graduate Blessing Oborududu to Represent Nigeria in Women's Freestyle Wrestling at Paris 2024 Olympics

Blessing Oborududu, a graduate of  Niger Delta University (NDU), is set to represent Nigeria in women's freestyle wrestling at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Oborududu, a Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist, is Nigeria’s first female wrestling Olympian to achieve such a feat. Hailing from Bayelsa State, Oborududu competes in the 68kg weight class and has built an illustrious career in wrestling.

A graduate of Business Administration from NDU, she furthered her education with a master’s certification from the Women Leads Sports Master Program. Currently, she serves as the United World Wrestling (UWW) Athlete Representative for Africa and previously led the Nigerian team as National Team Captain at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Her impressive career is highlighted by numerous accolades, including being awarded the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) by the Nigerian President. Despite wrestling being a predominantly male-dominated sport, Oborududu has broken barriers with her remarkable achievements and dedication.

Her journey to the top has been marked by trials, sacrifices, injuries, and setbacks, but her perseverance and passion for the sport have driven her to success. Known for her hard work and determination, Oborududu has been a source of inspiration to many young athletes. She actively mentors younger wrestlers, sharing her experiences and encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

 She has remained the National Champion in wrestling from 2009 to the present, secured two Spanish Grand Prix silver medals, and has been a 13-time African Champion since 2010. Her achievements also include winning the Commonwealth Championship in 2010 (silver), 2014 (bronze), 2018 (gold), and 2022 (gold), as well as the All African Games Championship and the Azerbaijan Golden Grand Prix gold medal in 2017. Additionally, she earned the Queens Wrestling Champion silver medal in 2012.
