OGITECH Reaffirms Commitment to 21st Century Polytechnic Education During NBTE Accreditation Exercise

The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has reaffirmed its commitment to global best practices in technical and vocational education following the successful completion of the 2026 Resource Inspection and Programme Accreditation exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The accreditation exercise was held from Monday, July 20, to Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Speaking at the opening of the exercise, the Rector, Dr. Abiodun Babatunde Oluseye, said the visit marked the fourth NBTE accreditation exercise at the institution within his less than three years in office.

He attributed the frequent accreditation exercises to the management's determination to strengthen the polytechnic system, align with global standards in technical education, improve the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and produce graduates equipped with practical problem-solving skills.

The institution presented 18 academic programmes under three categories.

• HND Science Laboratory Technology (Environmental Biology Option)
• ND Building Technology
• ND Banking and Finance
• ND Taxation
• HND Public Administration

• HND Science Laboratory Technology (Biochemistry Option)
• ND Music Technology
• ND Hospitality Management
• ND Nutrition and Dietetics
• ND Arts and Industrial Design
• ND Surveying and Geo-Informatics
• ND Food Technology

Programmes for Resource Inspection

• ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology
• ND Crime Management
• ND Office Technology and Management
• HND Civil Engineering Technology
• HND Electrical/Electronics Engineering (Power Option)

Dr. Oluseye commended the NBTE under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Professor Muhammad Idris Bugaje, for its continued support and professional guidance despite the institution's financial constraints.

He also appreciated the immediate past Director of Polytechnic and Allied Programmes, Engr. (Dr.) Fatimah Kabir Umar, and the current Director, Engr. Ayo Aroge, for their contributions to the development of the institution.

The Rector reiterated the institution's commitment to maintaining best practices in polytechnic education and advancing technical education in line with 21st-century standards.

He said the management remains open to professional advice from the NBTE and expressed confidence that the assessment and recommendations from the accreditation team would further enhance the quality of education offered by the institution.

Dr. Oluseye also called for stronger collaboration and support to enable the institution realise its vision of contributing to the development of a technologically advanced nation through quality technical education.

He directed Heads of Departments and other stakeholders to carefully document the observations of the accreditation team and ensure that all recommendations are promptly implemented.

Speaking during the pre-inspection briefing, the Director of the Polytechnic and Allied Programmes Department of the NBTE, Engr. Ayo Aroge, who led the accreditation team, said the purpose of the exercise was to provide guidance, corrections and professional support to strengthen the programmes under review.

The accreditation team was received by the Rector alongside the Deputy Rector, Dr. Oluyemi Odutola, principal officers and other stakeholders of the institution.

Also present at the exercise was the NBTE South-West Zonal Director, Dr. John Onyebuchi, who joined other principal officers of the Institute during the exercise.

The accreditation exercise is expected to further strengthen OGITECH's position as a centre for technical education, skilled manpower development and innovation-driven graduates in line with Nigeria's Technical and Vocational Education and Training objectives.
