NELFUND Disburses N163.99m to 3,215 Students of Federal University of Education, Zaria

The Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State, has received a total of N163,991,400 in education loan support from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2025/2026 academic session, benefiting 3,215 students.

The institution confirmed the receipt of the funds in a letter dated September 3, 2026, signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, and addressed to the Managing Director/CEO of NELFUND.

According to the confirmation, the funds were disbursed in eight tranches between December 2025 and February 2026 to support students with payment of their registration fees for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The largest tranche, amounting to N49,126,900, benefited 980 students, while N39,906,900 was disbursed to 766 students. Other tranches included N20,877,150 for 393 students, N17,203,150 for 318 students and N13,660,500 for 214 students.

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university, students and the wider community, expressed appreciation to NELFUND for the intervention, describing the support as a major contribution to students, their parents and the institution, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.

The university also stated that beneficiary students were issued receipts to promote accountability, transparency and proper documentation of the funds received.

Prof. Bunkure further commended NELFUND’s contribution to supporting students, noting that the initiative could have broader social benefits by helping young Nigerians remain engaged in education and reducing pressures associated with economic hardship.

The N163.99 million intervention for 3,215 students adds to the growing number of NELFUND-supported students across Nigerian tertiary institutions, providing financial assistance designed to ease the burden of higher education and give beneficiaries renewed hope to pursue their academic ambitions.
