Dr. Obi Nwaoburu and Dr. Chioma Festus Emerge as IAUE ASUU Branch Internal Auditor and Assistant Secretary

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) Branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has elected Dr. Obi Nwaoburu as its Internal Auditor.

Dr. Nwaoburu, Deputy Director, Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Education, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, emerged unopposed in the election held at the University Auditorium on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The election was supervised by Zonal ASUU Executives from the University of Port Harcourt and Rivers State University.

Similarly, the Head of Department of Chemistry, Dr. Chioma Festus, has emerged as Assistant Secretary of the branch. Dr. Festus secured 160 votes to defeat her opponent, Dr. Mark Otikor, who polled 90 votes.

Members of the union turned out in large numbers for accreditation and voting.

The ASUU Chairman and Head of Department of Marketing, Professor Obinna Prince Ikechi, congratulated the winners and urged them to work with the executive for the growth of the union and the university, and to justify the confidence reposed in them by members.
