NNRA Conducts Pre-Authorization Visit to UCH Ibadan; Commends Hospital’s Safety Standards

The Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) conducted a high-level courtesy and pre-authorization visit to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, on March 31, 2026.

The visit, held at the hospital’s boardroom, was a critical step toward the renewal of licenses for the hospital's radiation-emitting equipment and the continuation of its radiological services.

The Head of Nuclear Medicine, Dr. Mutiu Jimoh, introduced the NNRA team, reminding stakeholders of the regulatory body's mandate under Act 19 of 1995. This act charges the NNRA with ensuring that all nuclear and radioactive materials are managed safely to protect patients, healthcare workers, the public, and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

In response, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed UCH’s dedication to maintaining global standards in radiation safety. He expressed the hospital’s readiness to collaborate with the NNRA to ensure that all radiological services remain a benchmark for best practices in Nigeria.

The visit underscores the ongoing partnership between UCH and national regulatory bodies to provide safe, secure, and world-class medical services.
