Northwest University Mourns Loss of 200-Level Biology Student, Rahama Ali Ibrahim

The Northwest University (Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano) community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of Rahama Ali Ibrahim, a 200-level student in the Department of Biological Sciences.

Rahama, described by her peers as a dedicated and promising student, sadly passed away on the night of Monday, February 2, 2026. The news of her demise has sent shockwaves through the Faculty of Science and the wider university campus.

In an official expression of sorrow, the university community extended heartfelt condolences to her bereaved family. "Her loss is deeply felt by the entire university community," a statement from the student circle noted, reflecting the somber atmosphere on campus. 

Prayers have been offered across the institution, with colleagues and staff seeking Jannatul Firdaus for the departed and strength for her family to navigate this harrowing period.

Burial arrangements are expected to follow in accordance with Islamic rites. Rahama’s passing marks a painful moment for the Class of 2027, who remember her as a vibrant member of the BSc Biology programme.

The university management is expected to send a formal delegation to pay their respects to the Ibrahim family in Kano.
