NOUN, Bangladesh High Commission Explore Education Partnership, ICT Collaboration

The National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, and the Bangladesh High Commission to Nigeria are exploring areas of academic collaboration to strengthen ties between the two countries through education.  

The High Commissioner for the People’s Republic of Bangladesh to Nigeria, Micah Mainul Kabir, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, on Tuesday.  

He said the mission was to deepen bilateral relations and share Bangladesh’s experience in education with the Nigerian academia.  

“We’re trying to increase our relationship with Nigeria through education. We’re coming to share our Bangladesh experience with members of the academia.  

“It is also so nice of you to have received me without any appointment,” he said.  

The envoy proposed a structured framework for both countries to “learn and teach each other,” and disclosed plans to engage the Federal Ministry of Education to formalize the partnership.  

“With our previous experience with India in education, we’re thinking of doing the same here in Nigeria,” he added.  

He also invited NOUN management to programmes at the Bangladesh Embassy to further solidify the relationship.  

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Shehu Usman Adamu, welcomed the proposal, saying the university is open to any positive collaboration that will benefit both parties.  

He noted that a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, could cover areas such as ICT, capacity development, and course material development.  

“Meaningful progress will begin with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding,” the VC stated.  

He assured the delegation of NOUN’s commitment to exploring the partnership to enhance Open and Distance Learning delivery and academic exchange.
