NSUK, BPP Move to Establish Centre for Procurement and Environmental Standards

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), and the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) are taking steps to establish a Centre for Procurement and Environmental Standards to strengthen professional capacity, promote best practices in public procurement and equip students and staff with industry-relevant skills.

The proposed centre was the focus of a collaboration proposal presented by the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, to the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, during a high-level courtesy visit to the Bureau’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

The centre is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice through specialised training, capacity building and professional development. It is also expected to improve graduates’ employability and strengthen the competencies of public servants in procurement management and environmental standards.

Its key objectives include equipping beneficiaries with practical skills in modern procurement procedures and environmental regulations, promoting transparency and accountability in public procurement, and providing professional training pathways that align with evolving industry requirements.

Presenting the proposal, Professor Liman emphasised the strategic importance of strengthening institutional capacity through partnerships that connect university education with professional standards and workplace demands.

She noted that the initiative aligns with NSUK’s commitment to producing graduates with relevant knowledge, practical competencies and the skills required to contribute effectively to national development.

The proposed centre represents another step in NSUK’s efforts to strengthen collaboration with federal agencies, industry stakeholders and development partners.

Through the initiative, the university seeks to deepen the integration of professional training into academic development, promote responsible procurement practices, and contribute to institutional capacity building and sustainable national growth.

The proposed partnership also presents an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between higher education and public-sector practice by ensuring that academic knowledge is complemented by the professional skills and standards required in an increasingly specialised and accountable working environment.
