NSUK Strengthens Nuclear Science Research Through Strategic Partnership with NAEC

In a significant step towards positioning Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) at the forefront of scientific research, innovation and national development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, has facilitated a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC).

The landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the NAEC Headquarters in Abuja, establishes a framework for collaboration in nuclear science and technology for educational advancement, research, capacity development and socio-economic transformation.

The agreement reflects Professor Liman’s commitment to expanding NSUK’s strategic partnerships and strengthening the University’s capacity to contribute innovative, science-based solutions to national challenges.

Speaking during the engagement, Professor Liman described the partnership as a major milestone in strengthening institutional relations between NSUK and NAEC.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the significant potential of the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology in advancing education, research, agriculture, healthcare and economic development.

She expressed optimism that the collaboration would create new opportunities for NSUK researchers, academic staff and students while contributing to sustainable national development.

“This partnership is a significant milestone for Nasarawa State University, Keffi. By integrating nuclear science into our research and capacity-building frameworks, we are not only advancing education but actively contributing to the sustainable development of Nigeria,” Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, Vice-Chancellor, NSUK, said.

Under the MoU, both institutions will collaborate on joint research, manpower exchange, shared utilisation of laboratory facilities, capacity-building workshops, exchange of information and the leveraging of international collaborations.

The agreement also provides for the establishment of a Centre for Emergency Preparedness at NSUK.

Receiving the Vice-Chancellor and her delegation, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAEC, Engr. Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin Ekedegwa, described the partnership as strategic and mutually beneficial.

Dr. Ekedegwa highlighted the importance of the peaceful application of nuclear technology to national development, particularly in medicine, agriculture and water resources, and reaffirmed NAEC’s commitment to providing the necessary support for the successful implementation of the partnership.

The NAEC Chief Executive’s acknowledgement of the strategic value of the collaboration further underscored the importance of Professor Liman’s initiative in strengthening the University’s engagement with key national scientific institutions.

The partnership is expected to deepen NSUK’s research capacity, broaden access to specialised scientific facilities and expertise, promote knowledge exchange, and equip students and researchers with competencies relevant to emerging technological and developmental needs.

For Professor Liman, the agreement represents another important step in her administration’s determination to build an innovative, research-driven and globally connected university whose academic activities translate into tangible benefits for society.

The ceremony culminated in the formal signing of the MoU by the leadership of both institutions, followed by the presentation of NSUK souvenirs to the NAEC Chief Executive by Professor Liman and a group photograph to commemorate the landmark partnership.
