The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has received officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the evaluation of newly proposed academic programmes.
The assessment, which took place on September 15, 2025, covered four undergraduate programmes—Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, and Banking and Finance—as well as a postgraduate programme in Agroecology.

At a brief meeting with the visiting team in the Green Chamber, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, recalled the 2017 restructuring that phased out some Management and Social Science courses in order to preserve the University’s agricultural mandate. He explained that the proposed programmes were designed to complement agriculture and respond to current national and societal demands, rather than compete with the institution’s core focus.

Prof. Kehinde further noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria had earlier donated a building to strengthen the College, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of confidence in FUNAAB’s academic standing.
The NUC’s assessment is expected to pave the way for full accreditation and approval, a move that will expand FUNAAB’s academic scope, reinforce its position as a centre of excellence, and create wider opportunities for students and the society at large.
