OGITECH Strengthens Research Capacity Through Training on Accessing TETFund and World Bank Grants

The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, has held a workshop to strengthen academic staff capacity in research grant writing and publishing in rigorous international journals.

The training, organised by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Igbesa chapter, in collaboration with the Directorate of Research and Innovation, was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Dapo Abiodun Twin Lecture Theatre.

The programme, titled "Accessing TETFund and World Bank Research Grants and Publishing in Rigorous International Journals", brought together academic staff and researchers seeking to improve research writing skills and increase chances of securing funding.

Declaring the programme open, the Rector, Dr Abiodun Oluseye, described research as critical to academic development and a key factor for growth and relevance in the profession. He encouraged participants to take research and academic writing seriously, noting that quality research and well-written textbooks enhance recognition beyond their institutions.

He also noted the growing importance of interdisciplinary research in addressing contemporary challenges and urged participants to effectively utilise opportunities to access TETFund and other grants.

Speaking on "Writing Proposals for Winning TETFund Grants", facilitator Prof. Olatunde Farombi, Professor of Biochemistry, Molecular Toxicology and Translational Medicine and former Dean, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, emphasised the competitive nature of research grants. Prof. Farombi, who is Deputy Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, explained that grantsmanship is a competition with only limited applications funded, urging attention to quality, structure and relevance of proposals.

The second facilitator, Dr Moses Udoisoh, researcher in Molecular and Medicinal Biophysics at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and Founder of Scholarly Writings Ltd, focused on research writing and publishing in rigorous international journals, sensitising participants on producing quality research and navigating publication in reputable journals.

The sessions provided practical insights into proposal development, grant applications and academic publication.

In a vote of thanks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Sulaiman Olaitan Aminu, appreciated the Rector, facilitators and participants, encouraging them to apply knowledge gained to improve research quality and take advantage of TETFund research grant opportunities.

The training reinforced OGITECH's commitment to strengthening research, innovation and academic development.
