Professor Bukola Adeyemi Assumes Office as Dean of UI Faculty of Dentistry

Professor Bukola Folasade Adeyemi has assumed office as the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Ibadan (UI), effective August 1, 2026.

Professor Adeyemi is a distinguished Oral Pathologist at the University of Ibadan. She obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Ibadan in 1992, after which she undertook postgraduate training in Oral Pathology at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

She became a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in Oral Pathology in 2005 and obtained a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the University of Ibadan in 2006.

Professor Adeyemi joined the academic staff of the University of Ibadan in 2005 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Oral Pathology in 2018.

She is a committed teacher and researcher whose scholarship focuses particularly on oral cancers, with significant contributions to the understanding of oral squamous cell carcinoma, its risk factors, clinical presentation and prognostic indicators.

Professor Adeyemi has authored and co-authored more than 80 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has served as a reviewer for several local and international academic journals.

She is a member and office holder in several professional organisations, including:

• Nigerian Dental Association

• Nigerian Medical Association

• Nigerian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists

• West African College of Surgeons

• International Association of Oral Pathologists, African Region

Professor Adeyemi is the first female Professor of Oral Pathology in Nigeria and West Africa. She is also an Honorary Consultant to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Before her election as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, she served the University of Ibadan in several leadership capacities, including Sub-Dean (Postgraduate), Acting Head and the first substantive Head of the Department of Oral Pathology.

In her new role as Dean, Professor Adeyemi brings extensive experience in dental education, research, clinical practice and academic administration.
