The Director of the Institute of Capital Markets Studies (ICMS), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Uche Uwaleke, has led Ph.D. scholars of the Institute on a strategic academic study tour to Malaysia, in a major initiative aimed at strengthening international exposure, practical learning and global engagement.

The study tour, under the leadership of Professor Uwaleke, is designed to expose the scholars to global best practices in capital markets, financial systems, monetary policy, financial innovation and economic development, while providing opportunities for academic and professional interaction with leading institutions in Malaysia.

A major highlight of the tour was the delegation’s visit to the prestigious Asia School of Business (ASB), an institution established by Bank Negara Malaysia, the Central Bank of Malaysia.

Professor Uwaleke’s leadership of the delegation underscores his commitment to taking postgraduate education beyond the traditional classroom environment and connecting academic research with real-world financial and economic systems.

During the visit to ASB, the NSUK-ICMS scholars engaged in academic and professional exchanges that provided them with valuable insights into the dynamics of the Asian financial sector, monetary policy frameworks, financial regulation and advanced capital market operations.

The engagement particularly exposed the scholars to:

  1. Comparative Capital Market Dynamics: Examining the regulatory and operational differences between emerging African markets and developed Asian financial ecosystems.

  3. Global Academic Collaboration: Exploring opportunities for joint research, knowledge exchange and professional networking between NSUK scholars and institutions in the Asian financial ecosystem.

Under Professor Uwaleke’s stewardship, the ICMS has continued to pursue initiatives that bridge the gap between academic scholarship and practical industry experience.

His emphasis on international exposure reflects a broader vision of preparing doctoral scholars not only as researchers, but also as future contributors to financial policy, capital market development and economic transformation.

The Malaysia study tour therefore represents another strategic step in Professor Uwaleke’s efforts to position the Institute of Capital Markets Studies as a centre of excellence capable of producing globally competitive scholars with a strong understanding of international financial systems.

The initiative also supports Nasarawa State University’s broader internationalisation agenda by creating opportunities for its scholars to interact with leading institutions, practitioners and academics beyond Nigeria.

Through initiatives of this nature, Professor Uwaleke is strengthening the capacity of ICMS scholars to bring global perspectives, innovative ideas and evidence-based approaches to Nigeria’s financial and capital market development.
