SDU Inaugurates ANUPA Chapter, Inducts 120 Administrators

Southern Delta University, Ozoro, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, opened a new chapter in its administrative development with the inauguration of its chapter of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators and the induction of 120 staff members.

The landmark event featured a one-day professional training, induction ceremony and interactive session involving the ANUPA National Executive, SDU management and university administrators.

Speaking at the event, the ANUPA National President, Dr. Victor Bem, said the association is committed to continuous training, professional development, mentorship and ethical standards among university administrators. He described the establishment of the SDU chapter as an opportunity to plant a seed that will germinate and expand, noting that professionally trained administrators are essential to effective university management.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunny Awhefeada, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in SDU’s development, stressing that administrators are the institutional memory of the university, responsible for preserving records, processes and institutional traditions.

He said continuous training and innovation are essential as universities navigate an increasingly digital and rapidly changing environment, and assured ANUPA of the university’s support.

The Registrar of SDU, Mrs. Ejiroghene Etobro, described the inauguration as a major step towards building a world-class registry anchored on professionalism, efficiency, innovation, integrity and excellence. She commended the Vice-Chancellor for approving and sponsoring the initiative, noting that the support demonstrates management’s commitment to human capital development.

The Registrar disclosed that over 120 administrators registered for the programme, with 120 ultimately inducted, describing the participation as evidence of staff commitment to professional growth.

She said the inauguration was not a one-off event but the beginning of a series of training and capacity-building programmes designed to develop staff across various cadres of the registry.

Mrs. Etobro also expressed the aspiration that SDU would become a training ground for future registrars and senior university administrators, where professionals would be nurtured, mentored and prepared for greater responsibilities.

“We are not merely inaugurating an association; we are inaugurating a culture of continuous professional development,” she said.

The event also featured the presentation of traditional hospitality items to the visiting ANUPA National Executive, as well as goodwill messages and a ceremonial toast.

With the inauguration and induction, SDU has further strengthened its commitment to professional excellence, institutional capacity building and the development of an administrative system capable of supporting its vision as a modern and efficient 21st-century university.
