FULafia Don Urges Researchers to Sharpen Grant-Writing Skills

The Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies, Federal University of Lafia, Prof. Samson Dugga, has urged researchers to sharpen their grant-writing skills, saying effective proposals are crucial to attracting funding for research projects.

Dugga spoke at a one-day workshop organised by the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, FULafia, with the theme: “Academic Excellence in the Digital Age: Teaching, Research and AI Integration.”

He described grants as funds awarded to individuals or institutions to undertake specified projects, which are generally non-repayable.

The don identified key components of a grant proposal as executive summary, statement of need, project description, goals and objectives, methodology, evaluation, budget and sustainability plan.

He advised researchers to adhere strictly to funding guidelines, collaborate with relevant stakeholders and develop realistic timelines when preparing proposals.

Dugga cautioned participants against excessive use of jargon and unsupported assumptions, stressing the need for clarity, precision and compliance with funders’ requirements.
