SLUK Strengthens Research Quality with Plagiarism and AI-Checking Tools, Conducts Capacity-Building Workshop

In its continued effort to strengthen academic integrity and promote quality research, Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa (SLU), has procured plagiarism and artificial intelligence (AI) detection software for academic and research activities

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Engr. Prof. Nasir Faruk, disclosed this during a workshop organised by the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnership (DRIP) on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

In the same vein, the University has developed a Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), incorporating national benchmarks on acceptable similarity thresholds. The policy applies to academic and research activities involving staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as all SLU-based journals.

Against this backdrop, the University organised a capacity-building workshop for 48 stakeholders, including postgraduate and undergraduate coordinators and faculty research coordinators. The participants received practical training on the effective use of the plagiarism and AI-checking tools.

During the workshop, participants also collaboratively developed guidelines for undergraduate student projects aimed at promoting originality, adherence to proper academic practices and improved research quality across the University.
