The Vice-Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building on Friday, 13 February 2026.

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, received a delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building on Friday, 13 February 2026.

Led by Professor Umar Buba Bindir, the TETFund team conducted an assessment visit to review the operations of the university’s Centre of Excellence in Arid Zone Research. The visit focused on engaging with the centre’s management and staff, evaluating ongoing activities, identifying operational challenges, and providing recommendations to enhance sustainability and impact.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, expressed gratitude for TETFund’s sustained support in research and infrastructural development. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to applying knowledge to solve real-world problems and assured the delegation of readiness to implement constructive recommendations.

The TETFund delegation emphasized that the visit was a supportive engagement rather than an audit. They highlighted the fund’s evolving mandate, noting that while initial efforts focused on infrastructure and academic staff training, current priorities center on research with direct societal impact, aligned with national development objectives.
