UCH CMD Honours Dentist Asika Chukwuma for Contribution to Palliative Care Dental Services

The Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital, Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, has honoured Asika Chukwuma, a Senior Registrar in the Department of Family Dentistry, with a plaque of recognition for his contribution to healthcare development.

The recognition, presented on April 1, 2026, acknowledged Chukwuma’s donation towards the establishment of a newly commissioned dental clinic within the hospital’s Hospice and Palliative Care Department.

Hospital management described the initiative as a significant milestone, noting that the integration of dental services into palliative care remains rare in many healthcare institutions. The development is expected to strengthen the hospital’s multidisciplinary care approach and improve service delivery for patients with complex medical needs.

The addition of dental care services to the palliative unit addresses a critical gap in patient management, particularly for individuals with serious or life-limiting conditions who often require comprehensive and coordinated treatment.
