UI Holds Two-Day Orientation Programme For Newly Admitted Students

The University of Ibadan has held a 2-day orientation programme for fresh students who were admitted into various undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp told the newly admitted students that to excel academically, they must be mindful of their character as a heavily weighted factor in earning the degree of the University of Ibadan.

He noted that the essence of the orientation programme was to introduce to the new students, the processes that they have to go through, the academic environment, the physical environment, the available facilities, and the social environment of the university.

He added that they will be educated on how to navigate the university's physical, administrative and academic terrain to achieve their goals.

Professor Adebowale stated that the University of Ibadan provides an enabling environment for the students to get themselves involved in governance, saying that the presence of the members of the Executive Committee of the UI Student Union at the orientation exercise was an attestation to this.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university has created an enabling environment for students to get involved in governance through the remarkable process of electing their representatives at various levels in order to make the students’ training holistic and realistic

He noted that this will no doubt sharpen their leadership potentials and deepen a democratic culture, thereby preparing the students for life outside the university campus.

The VC encouraged the newly admitted students to be part of campus politics but in a very responsible and functional manner.

Professor Adebowale urged the fresh students to register at the University Health Service and make use of the university health services, adding that the university also has sports facilities on campus and encouraged them to use these facilities either for recreation or competitive sports through the various university sports teams.

He added that the University of Ibadan encourages spiritual development and allows students to practice their respective religions without hindrance as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others or do not contradict established university rules.

Given the need for social interaction, Professor Adebowale informed them that there are registered student clubs on campus and students are free to join any of them.

The Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis in his welcome address, told the fresh students that the hallmark of success is a good head on their shoulders, advising them to set clear goals for themselves while in school, and commit to pursuing them.

Professor Lewis encouraged the fresh students to aim high and challenge themselves, affirming that the University of Ibadan is a land of possibilities.
