UNIDEL Matriculates 5,900 Fresh Students As VC Commends Gov. Oborevwori For Commitment To Education

The University of Delta, Agbor, has formally admitted 5,900 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session. 

The Vice-Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Stella Chiemeke made the disclosure in her speech delivered at the matriculation ceremony. 

She stated that for the 2025/2026 academic session, a total number of 13,559 candidates sought admission into the University and from the pool, 5,900 qualified were admitted. She noted that the figure represented a 50 percent increase in students intake compared to the previous academic session.

Prof. Chiemeke gave kudos to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori for his unquantifiable support in policy direction, advocacy before regulatory organs, and in practical facilitation of institutional growth which, had translated into concrete outcomes for the University of Delta, Agbor.

She added that it was through the leadership of the Governor that many programmes received massive accreditation necessary to strengthen the academic offerings. 

The Vice-Chancellor also extended the Management gratitude to the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu and the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Tonukari Nyerhovwo for their immense support.

While congratulating the matriculating students, Prof. Chiemeke reiterated some fundamental principles that would guide their university experience, stressing that the university was committed to excellence in teaching and research, and charged them to pursue knowledge rigorously. 

She maintained that integrity was a keystone of academic life and warned students against examination mal-practices, plagiarism, forms of dishonesty, cultism and violence.

She assured parents and guardians of the matriculating students of the University's commitment to providing a conducive academic environment, robust students welfare services and the moral guidance necessary for their wards to flourish.

In a matriculation lecture, Rev. Fr. Mario David Dibie enjoined the students, whom he described as Eagles, to remain focused with great vision.

He highlighted some principles that would guarantee the students' academic success to include, developing the hunger for academic excellence, time management, avoiding of friends that have no value and doing the right things to avoid being victims of destructive and dangerous lecturers.

He also admonished the students to avoid building academic structure on a false foundation, being mindful of mistakes and most importantly, remembering the word of God for daily direction.

The matriculation ceremony also featured the administration of Matriculation Oath, symbolic signing of the matriculation register and cultural presentation.

Some dignitaries at the event included the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu, a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Mrs Bridget Odobor, Principal Officers of UNIDEL, staff of Zenith Bank, Agbor and some royal fathers.

Others were, Deans of all Faculities , Directors of academic programmes, Heads of Departments, Senior Deputy Registrars and a host of others."
