UNIPORT, China-Japan-ROK Explore Partnership for West Africa-China Institute

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Prof. Chike Princewill, on Friday, September 18, 2026, received the Director of the China-Japan-ROK Innovation Cooperation Center, Amb. Jay Xu, during a courtesy visit to his office.

The meeting focused on exploring areas of collaboration and the proposed establishment of a West Africa-China Institute at the University of Port Harcourt.

The proposed institute is expected to provide a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation in agriculture and technology, and human capital development, benefiting the university and the wider West African region.

Prof. Chike Princewill welcomed the proposal, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen academic and developmental cooperation between the institutions.

The Vice-Chancellor also called for the inclusion of Chinese language in the university's curriculum to deepen cultural and educational exchange and create broader opportunities for members of the university community.
