She explained that fish contains high-quality protein, which is essential for building and repairing body tissues. She also identified other important nutrients found in fish, including:
- Omega-3 fatty acids, which support good health.
- Vitamin B, which contributes to the formation of blood cells.
- Vitamin D, which helps maintain healthy bones and supports muscle function.
Prof. Olabiwoninu encouraged participants to include different varieties of fish in their diets to achieve balanced nutrition. She also advised them to choose fish with lower mercury levels and purchase from hygienic sources to protect their health.
The practical training session was facilitated by the Chief Executive Officer of Tosrule Multibiz Ventures, Mr. Tosin Arogundade, who demonstrated appropriate methods of handling, cleaning, preparing and smoking fish.
Participants were taken through the different stages of fish processing, with practical demonstrations on preparing fish for both domestic consumption and commercial purposes.
