University of Ibadan VC Emphasizes Importance of Mentorship and Collaboration

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. K.O. Adebowale, has reaffirmed the institution's commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and research advancement. He emphasized that these elements are vital to sustaining UI's legacy of excellence.

Prof. Adebowale highlighted the challenges of brain drain affecting Nigerian universities, particularly in the medical sciences. He stressed that mentorship is essential in addressing this challenge, providing guidance and encouragement to younger scholars.

The Vice-Chancellor welcomed Dr. Akinyemi Ojesina, an alumnus and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, USA. Dr. Ojesina expressed his passion for mentoring young researchers and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration. He also offered to support the University through partnerships with international institutions.

The Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Taiwo Lawal, described the guest lecture as significant, noting it was the first in nearly eight years. He expressed delight that Dr. Ojesina, a seasoned professional and UI alumnus, was delivering the lecture.
