WAEC Defends 2026 WASSCE Results, Warns Against Unverified Social Media Claims

WAEC has defended the credibility of the 2026 WASSCE results, explaining its marking and moderation processes and warning against unverified social media claims.

The Council, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the results were produced through rigorous marking, moderation and auditing processes designed to ensure that candidates were assessed fairly and objectively.

WAEC said it was aware of the public discussions surrounding the recently released results but urged candidates, parents and other members of the public to be cautious about relying on unverified claims circulating on social media.

According to the examination body, the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in line with its established standard operating procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Council explained that every candidate’s script passes through multiple levels of quality assurance, including marking, moderation and auditing.

It added that the processes are guided by standardised marking schemes and supervised by vetted subject experts to safeguard the integrity of the assessment

“Every candidate’s script undergoes a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation, and auditing. These processes are guided by standardized marking schemes and overseen by vetted subject experts to ensure objective and fair scoring,” WAEC said.

The Council also disclosed that it has established channels for candidates and other stakeholders who wish to seek clarification or raise concerns about their results.

It said enquiries and grievances could be directed to its offices nationwide and its verified online platforms for proper consideration and resolution.

WAEC acknowledged that concerns over examination results were understandable, particularly for candidates whose next step depends on their performance in the examination.

However, it cautioned against allowing anxiety surrounding the results to fuel claims that had not been verified by the Council.

The examination body therefore advised candidates and parents with concerns to seek clarification through its official channels rather than relying on information circulating on social media.

WAEC said its website and verified social media platforms remained available for the dissemination of accurate information and guidance on result-related enquiries.

The Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its assessment system and protecting the interests of candidates.
