ACU Campuses Turn Green as Management Intensifies Cleanliness and Environmental Drive

The Ajegunle and Offa-Meta campuses of Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, have recorded a noticeable environmental upgrade following a sustained cleanliness and beautification initiative led by the university management.

Over the extended public holiday and into the new week, the university’s Environmental Management Unit (EMU) carried out extensive sanitation and landscaping operations, transforming key areas across both campuses into cleaner and greener spaces.

The exercise covered major locations including the main entrance, the Law Faculty building, Joseph Adetiloye Hotel, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and the Female Hostel, with no section left unattended.

At the Ajegunle campus, EMU personnel, under the supervision of Mr. Olugbenga Fashina, were actively engaged in sweeping, raking, and clearing waste materials, particularly around the car park behind St. Andrew’s, as well as the Faculty of Education and adjoining facilities.

Similarly, the Offa-Meta campus underwent coordinated cleaning and landscaping, with overgrown grass cleared and leveled to improve aesthetics and usability. The university’s tractor was also deployed to support waste removal and debris clearing operations across both sites.

The initiative is part of a broader environmental reform agenda championed by the university management led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, who had earlier urged staff and students to take collective responsibility for maintaining a clean campus environment.

This appeal followed the recent procurement and distribution of 42 waste bins, which have now been strategically installed across both campuses to strengthen waste management practices and encourage proper disposal habits.

Management stated that the ongoing sanitation efforts form part of a long-term strategy to reposition the university, improve its physical environment, and align campus standards with global best practices in institutional cleanliness and sustainability.

Staff and students have been urged to fully embrace the initiative and maintain consistent participation to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more conducive learning environment across the university.
