African Democratic Congress (ADC) Questions NYSC Safety Measures, Urges One-Year Suspension

ADC has urged the Federal Government to suspend NYSC for one year, saying the scheme needs urgent reorganisation due to worsening insecurity.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the suspension of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme for one year, saying the move would allow the Federal Government to reorganise the programme and strengthen measures to protect corps members.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the call in an interview, stressing that NYSC remains important to promoting national unity but should be reviewed in response to the worsening security situation across the country.

Abdullahi said the safety of young Nigerians should take priority, particularly following incidents in which prospective corps members have been abducted. He questioned how a large number of corps members could be kidnapped despite indications that the affected area was vulnerable to attacks.

He also criticised the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity, arguing that security personnel are not adequately equipped to tackle the situation. Abdullahi further accused President Bola Tinubu of focusing more on the 2027 election than on Nigerians being held captive by kidnappers.

He also faulted the President’s Independence Day address, saying it gave insufficient attention to the country’s security challenges and the plight of people in captivity.
