Ahmadu Bello University Commends Uba Sani Over Historic Internal Road Reconstruction

Ahmadu Bello University has described the Kaduna State Government's reconstruction of its internal roads as the biggest infrastructure intervention in over 40 years, praising the quality and impact of the project.

Ahmed said the project had exceeded the university’s expectations and was the first of its kind in more than four decades.

Speaking during an inspection of the project on Saturday, the vice-chancellor commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for extending the intervention to the federal university without any formal request.

“We have waited for 40 years for this. The quality of the work has exceeded our expectations,” he said.

Ahmed noted that ABU, as Nigeria’s foremost engineering institution, could confidently attest to the quality of the construction, adding that the university’s engineers were directly involved in supervising the project to ensure compliance with engineering standards.

“Our engineers are fully involved in the supervision of the work. We are confident these roads will serve the university community for decades,” he added.

The vice-chancellor said the intervention reflected the governor’s commitment to education and responsible governance, urging other Northern governors to support ABU, which he described as a shared regional heritage.

Earlier, the Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency, Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmed, said the inspection formed part of the agency’s assessment of ongoing road projects across the state.

He disclosed that the Kaduna State Government had initiated about 150 road projects covering approximately 1,345 kilometres across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Baba Ahmed described the reconstruction of ABU’s internal roads as a landmark intervention in a federal university, adding that engineering tests, including coring, in-situ density and California Bearing Ratio tests, confirmed the quality of the work.

“The Faculty of Engineering of ABU participated in the laboratory tests. We are satisfied with the quality and pace of work,” he said, expressing optimism that the project would be completed before the end of August or early September despite the rainy season.

The President of the Students’ Union Government, Abdulrahman Aliyu, described the project as one of the biggest infrastructure interventions recently witnessed by the university.

Some staff and students also praised the development.

A staff member, Deborah Danjuma, said the reconstruction had restored the institution’s image and improved accessibility within the campus.
