AKCILS Acting Provost Declares Zero Tolerance on Indiscipline, Introduces New Security Measures

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, AKCILS, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has held a critical stakeholders’ meeting to deliberate on measures to strengthen morality, discipline, security and responsible conduct among staff and students.

The meeting, held on Thursday, August 21, 2026, focused on growing concerns over drug-related and other harmful substances in society, which the College said threaten the standard of conduct it has maintained for decades. 

Declaring a zero-tolerance policy on drugs and other harmful substances, the Acting Provost warned that no individual would be spared if found violating the College’s rules and regulations. He stressed that offenders would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the College’s relevant rules.

Dr. Mu’az said the College would not allow the legacy of its founding fathers to be undermined by acts of immorality, indiscipline or other forms of misconduct. He called on all stakeholders to sustain the institution’s sound moral foundation and ensure it remains safe, disciplined and conducive for teaching and learning.

As part of efforts to strengthen security and access control, the Acting Provost directed that all staff and students must possess valid identification cards. He gave a two-week period for compliance, after which any staff member or student without a valid ID card will not be allowed access to the College premises.

He also directed that vehicles with tinted glasses will no longer be allowed into the College premises, as part of measures to regulate vehicular movement and ensure effective access control.

The Acting Provost further directed relevant authorities to strengthen the College’s security architecture by engaging additional personnel from state-owned security institutions and enhancing collaboration with existing security arrangements.

He ordered security personnel to intensify checks at all access points, including thorough checks of students’ bags before entry. He also directed that exit points be properly controlled and that arrangements be made to establish a centralised entrance and exit point for effective monitoring of movement into and out of the institution.

Dr. Mu’az emphasized that the measures are not intended to inconvenience members of the College community, but are necessary steps to safeguard lives and property, promote discipline, and preserve the integrity and image of the institution.

He urged all staff, students and stakeholders to cooperate fully with Management in implementing the new security and disciplinary measures, stressing that maintaining a safe, disciplined and morally sound academic environment is a collective responsibility.
