AKSU Secures Two Top JAMB Awards, Wins ₦25 Million for Gender Balance Admissions Excellence
Akwa Ibom State University has recorded a strong national performance after receiving two major awards from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja.
Akwa Ibom State University has recorded a strong national performance after receiving two major awards from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja.

The awards were presented on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the Body of Benchers Auditorium, Jabi, during the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award (NATAP-MA), 6th Edition.
The university clinched ₦25 million for emerging first position in the Gender Balance Admission category for the 2025/2026 academic session. It also emerged Second Runner-Up in the Overall Category of the Mega National Tertiary Admissions Performance (NATAP) Merit Award.
The awards were formally presented to the Vice-Chancellor of AKSU, OtoAbasi Akpan, by senior education stakeholders including the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede.
Other officials present at the event included the Director of Admissions at JAMB, Mr. Mohammed Babajide Ahmed, representatives of key regulatory bodies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), as well as vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, registrars, and admissions officers from tertiary institutions across the country.
The recognition places AKSU among the top-performing universities in Nigeria’s admission system, particularly in promoting gender balance and maintaining strong compliance with national admission standards.

Akwa Ibom State University described the dual awards as a validation of its commitment to fairness, transparency, and excellence in admissions processes, as well as its broader goal of strengthening institutional credibility in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
