AKSU Steps Up Preparations to Host 2026 Nigerian Mathematical Society Annual Conference

The update emerged during a courtesy visit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Otoabasi E. Akpan, by the NMS Council on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the Main Campus, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin LGA.
During the engagement, Prof. Akpan reaffirmed the University’s readiness to deliver a successful national conference, describing the hosting rights as a strategic platform to showcase AKSU’s academic competence, organisational capability, and expanding influence within Nigeria’s research ecosystem. He emphasised the institution’s long-standing commitment to academic excellence, research development, and strategic partnerships with professional bodies.
The President of the NMS Council, Prof. G. C. E. Mbah of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, expressed satisfaction with the University’s progress and commended AKSU’s proactive approach to planning. He confirmed that the Council had conducted a detailed tour of facilities within the Department of Mathematics and other proposed venues, noting strong indications of preparedness.

Also contributing, the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Prof. Anthony Usoro, applauded the University Management for its consistent support. He assured the NMS Council of the faculty’s full cooperation to ensure a seamless and impactful conference.
Other members of the visiting NMS Council included Prof. Olubunmi Fadipe-Joseph, Vice-President of NMS from the University of Ilorin; Prof. Eric U. Ofoedu, Assistant Editor-in-Chief from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Dr. T. T. Ashezua, Secretary from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi; and Dr. T. Tivde, Treasurer from the same institution. The meeting also had in attendance the Head of the Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Gabriel Otu, alongside staff of the Directorate.

The 43rd NMS Annual Conference is expected to attract mathematicians, researchers, academics, and students nationwide, reinforcing AKSU’s growing role as a hub for scholarly engagement.
