ARCON Undertakes Advisory Accreditation Visit To UNIDEL Architecture Department
The Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) has paid an advisory accreditation visit to the Department of Architecture at the University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), as part of preparations for the forthcoming accreditation exercise.

The visit, which lasted from September 15 to 19, 2025, was aimed at assessing the department’s level of readiness and providing guidance to the university management on necessary steps to meet professional standards.

The Accreditation Advisory Team, led by Arc. Prof. Joseph Ahianba, inspected key facilities across the university, including the Department of Architecture, the University Library, and the Information and Communication Technology Centre. The team expressed satisfaction with the quality of infrastructure available.
At the library, the University Librarian, Dr. Vera Okonoko, conducted the visitors round various sections. Similarly, at the ICT Centre, the Director, Dr. (Mrs.) Bridget O. Malasowe, described the facility as the most advanced of its kind in Delta State, highlighting its capacity to support cutting-edge academic work.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Prof. Ahianba and his team paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of UNIDEL, Prof. Stella Chiemeke. Speaking during the visit, the ARCON leader explained that the advisory exercise was designed to evaluate the university’s preparedness for full accreditation.
“The purpose of ARCON is to ensure that architecture programmes are run in line with professional standards, to confirm quality, and to assess the university’s scorecard ahead of accreditation,” he said.
In her response, Prof. Chiemeke warmly welcomed the delegation, commending them for their efforts to safeguard professional excellence in architectural education across Nigeria.
Also present at the meeting were the Registrar, Barr. Richmond Omagbemi; the Librarian, Dr. Vera Okonoko; the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Sam Egonwa; the Head of Department of Architecture, Dr. O. J. Ediea; the Director of Academic Planning, Mrs. Felicia Mormah; and Dr. Nwaki.
Other members of the ARCON Advisory Team included Arc. Dr. Solomon Ayo-Odifiri, who served as Secretary, Arc. Henry Aghwadoma, and Arc. Charles Njoagwuani.
