In a statement issued on Saturday by Daniel Chile, the ASUU secretary, the lecturers listed unresolved welfare issues, including unpaid salary arrears, promotion benefits, and alleged irregularities in pension remittances, as part of reasons for their decision.

The lecturers expressed deep-seated frustration, noting that the "unresolved welfare issues" are currently undermining the morale and productivity of the academic workforce. The Union cautioned that if the Benue State Government and the university management fail to present a clear timeline for the resolution of these debts, an industrial action remains inevitable.

The threat of a strike at Father Adasu University (formerly Benue State University) signals a potential disruption to the 2025/2026 academic calendar, with students and stakeholders calling for urgent government intervention to prevent a total shutdown of the institution.
