Babcock University has welcomed a delegation from the Project Management Institute (PMI) Nigeria as part of efforts to strengthen project management education, professional development and youth empowerment.
The delegation was led by the President of PMI Nigeria, Dr. Arc. Gbolahan Oyelakin, and included Mrs. Adeola Akande, Miss Adekemi Oyewusi, Prof. Lami Nnamonu, Mr. Emeka Unachukwu and Dr. Babatunde Obrimah.
The visit marked the beginning of a strategic partnership between Babcock University and PMI Nigeria, with the collaboration expected to provide students and staff with access to internationally recognised project management certifications, mentorship, leadership development, professional networking and practical industry experience.
A major outcome of the engagement was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the establishment of a PMI Student Club on the University’s campus.
The proposed student club will provide students with opportunities to develop leadership capacity, collaborate on real-world projects and acquire practical skills that are increasingly sought after by employers globally.
Speaking on the partnership, the President/Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole, stated that the University’s goal is to produce graduates who are globally competitive, relevant and equipped for leadership.
The partnership is expected to strengthen the capacity of Babcock students to pursue careers in project management while exposing them to professional networks, industry practices and opportunities beyond the traditional classroom environment.
Through the collaboration, Babcock University and PMI Nigeria aim to contribute to the development of the next generation of innovators, project professionals and transformational leaders.
The partnership further reinforces the importance of project management skills in preparing students for an increasingly project-driven global economy.
