BMU VC Congratulates Pioneer Management Team of Bayelsa Medical University Teaching Hospital
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayelsa Medical University (BMU), Professor Dimie Ogoina, has congratulated the newly inaugurated pioneer management team of the Bayelsa Medical University Teaching Hospital (BMUTH), describing the development as a significant milestone in Bayelsa State’s healthcare and medical education aspirations.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayelsa Medical University (BMU), Professor Dimie Ogoina, has congratulated the newly inaugurated pioneer management team of the Bayelsa Medical University Teaching Hospital (BMUTH), describing the development as a significant milestone in Bayelsa State’s healthcare and medical education aspirations.
The pioneer management team, appointed by the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, was inaugurated on Thursday, 24 September 2026, at the Conference Hall of the Bayelsa State Ministry of Health by the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Seiyefa Brisibe.
The newly inaugurated management team comprises:
- Dr. Boboye Ifie-Ombeh – Chief Medical Director
- Dr. Riemann Biowe – Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee
- Dr. Marie Teibowei – Director of Administration
- Mr. Selekowei Seipulou – Director of Finance and Accounts
Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Ogoina congratulated the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Seiyefa Brisibe, and the Bayelsa State Government on the establishment of the Teaching Hospital and the inauguration of its pioneer management team.
He described the development as an important step towards strengthening the state’s healthcare system and advancing its medical education agenda.
The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated the newly appointed members of the management team and expressed confidence in the potential of BMUTH to attain national and international recognition, particularly through its strategic relationship with Bayelsa Medical University.
He emphasised the importance of a strong partnership between the Teaching Hospital and the University, charging the management team to work closely with BMU in achieving the healthcare and development vision of Senator Douye Diri for Bayelsa State.
According to Professor Ogoina, the success of the Teaching Hospital would be strengthened through collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in medical education, clinical training, research, innovation and healthcare delivery.
The Vice-Chancellor specially congratulated Dr. Marie Teibowei, one of BMU’s ASPIRE Champions, on her appointment as Director of Administration of the Bayelsa Medical University Teaching Hospital.
He described her appointment as recognition of her commitment and contribution to the University’s vision and expressed confidence that she would bring her wealth of experience to bear in her new role.
Professor Ogoina urged the pioneer management team to embrace collaboration, excellence and innovation as they commence the task of building a Teaching Hospital capable of supporting the University’s growing academic and clinical needs.
He reiterated BMU’s commitment to working closely with the Teaching Hospital towards the shared goal of positioning Bayelsa State as a destination for quality medical education, research and healthcare delivery.
The Vice-Chancellor further noted that the partnership would contribute to the state’s efforts to achieve greater global recognition and impact in the healthcare and medical education sectors.
Professor Ogoina once again congratulated the pioneer management team on their appointments and wished them a successful tenure as they begin the task of laying a strong foundation for the Bayelsa Medical University Teaching Hospital.
