BUK SUG President Demands Action Over Student Killings
The Students Union Government (SUG) President of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Abdullahi Usman Baba, has issued a strong-worded open letter to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, condemning the rising tide of violence against students in Kano State.
The letter follows the recent killing of Umar Abdullahi Hafizi, a penultimate-year student who was stabbed to death in Dorayi Karshen Waya by suspected thugs.
Abdullahi Usman Baba has demanded that the Kano State Government take immediate action to protect students, including the creation of a solid student-protection framework, swift arrest and prosecution of perpetrators, and an end to the violence. He emphasized that the government must act decisively to prevent further loss of life.
The SUG President stressed the need for accountability, stating that "the blood of our students stains the very fabric of this state, and we demand accountability." The letter was copied to relevant authorities, including NANS, security agencies, and ministries of justice and education, signaling a broader push for justice.
Abdullahi Usman Baba concluded the letter with a warning, stating that "this open letter is just the beginning of our march towards justice." The SUG's demands and actions are expected to bring attention to the issue and push for meaningful change.
