Elizade University Appoints Professor Philip Oguntunde as Substantive Vice-Chancellor
The Board of Trustees of Elizade University, following the recommendation of the Governing Council, has approved the appointment of Professor Philip Oguntunde as the University’s Substantive Vice-Chancellor, effective 1st January 2026.

The Board of Trustees of Elizade University, following the recommendation of the Governing Council, has approved the appointment of Professor Philip Oguntunde as the University’s Substantive Vice-Chancellor, effective 1st January 2026.
A statement by the Registrar, Mr. Omololu Adegbenro, highlighted Professor Oguntunde’s outstanding record as a scholar, researcher, and administrator. He is a First Class graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Hydrology and Water Engineering from the University of Bonn, Germany, complemented by advanced leadership training in higher education management.
Professor Oguntunde, born in 1969, rose through academic ranks at FUTA to become a Professor in 2014. He has authored over 100 publications, multiple books and monographs, and supervised more than 15 Ph.D. and 20 Master’s graduates. His research and mentorship have attracted significant grants in both local and foreign currencies, supporting capacity building, research, and infrastructural development.
His leadership experience includes two terms as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), membership on the Governing Council, and tenure as Director of the University Advancement Centre, where he strengthened both local and international collaborations.
A Fellow of numerous professional and scientific bodies nationally and internationally, Professor Oguntunde’s appointment reflects Elizade University’s commitment to research-driven academic excellence, innovation, and world-class governance.
