Federal Ministry of Education Issues Clarification on Epe University Approval
The Federal Ministry of Education has issued a statement clarifying the approval process for the establishment of the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos State.
According to the statement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu granted approval for the university's establishment prior to the Federal Executive Council's (FEC) adoption of a seven-year moratorium on creating new federal tertiary institutions.
Honourable Minister of Education, Chief (Dr.) Maruf Tunji Alausa, explained that the President's approval was given through a Presidential Executive Memo, and that the university, along with two others, was approved simultaneously. The delay in announcing the Epe University's approval was due to the Senate's recess and subsequent passage of the establishment bill.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the seven-year moratorium on new federal tertiary institutions, emphasizing that it remains in effect.
