FUHSI Commemorates 2026 World Sickle Cell Day, Advocates for Equitable Healthcare Access
FUHSI Marks 2026 World Sickle Cell Day with Call for Equity in Care and Improved SurvivalThe Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), through its Sickle Cell Club, commemorated the 2026 World Sickle Cell Day on Friday, 19th June, 2026 with a public lecture themed "Closing the Survival Gap: Equity in Sickle Cell Disease.
"The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akeem Olawale Lasisi, was represented by the Registrar, Mr. Kayode Kassim Babamale, while the Chief Medical Director of FUHSI Teaching Hospital, Prof. Kola Musliu Owonikoko, delivered the opening address.
The keynote lecture was presented by Prof. Rahman Ayodele Bolarinwa, Consultant Haematologist and Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences.Also present was the Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Chairman of the FUHSI Sickle Cell Club, Prof. Taofeeq Oduola, alongside members of the Management teams of the University and Teaching Hospital.

The event highlighted the need for improved awareness, equitable healthcare access, early diagnosis, and better support systems for individuals living with sickle cell disease.
